To Teach the Dysregulated Child You Must First Understand the Dysregulated Child
I know there are certain truths that all educators face.
It feels like there is never enough time to do everything you want to do and you are stressed to the max. Burn out is real.
Your budget is stretched very thin, but you want/need to better understand trauma and adversity in the classroom environment. Is it worth $10 to you?
You are overwhelmed in our current environment and can benefit for a community of uplifting educators who get it!
With these truths in mind, I have decided to create a membership site to offer BITE SIZED professional development, guided meditations to help you relax and rejuvenate, and much more.
The membership plan is a mere $10 a month. As long as you are an active member you will have unlimited access to ALL of the professional development topics, ALL of the guided meditations (these can be very healing!), and a wonderfully supportive community of people who get it. You have total control over how long you stay and how much you learn. Each time you complete a course, I will send you documentation for your records (if you need to count PD hours for license renewal, etc).
So what exactly is BITE SIZED PD?
I have a series of training which I call Teaching the Dysregulated Child. I break the course down into segments, each segment being 15 minutes or less. This makes it easy for you to find the time in your busy schedule, it is small doses of information that your stressed out brain can take in, and you can easily go back and review specific segments without needing to rewind a 60 minute video hoping to find the just right spot. Each segment will also have a typed summary if you prefer to read or just want the highlights. (time saver!)
You can move through the segments as slowly or as quickly as you like, whatever works for your schedule. If you want to squeeze it all in for just $10, go for it. If you want to stretch things out, take it easy, you can remain a member for as long as you like for just $10 a month.
All topics will be related to trauma informed educational practices and understandings. I plan to continually add more and more content as time goes on (What can I say, I love to learn and share new things).
In addition to the PD being offered, you will also have unlimited access to several powerful guided meditations. Meditations I wrote and recorded to help people shift energy patterns that limit them, hold them back, bog them down, and so forth. Even if you never even looked at the PD, the guided meditations can help reduce stress, reduce the sense of overwhelm you feel, and promote peace within. Surely that is worth 10 bucks. Go ahead. Treat yourself!
I have highlighted three courses below. These are only accessible through the membership program. (More topics are coming soon!)
aces- adverse childhood experiences delivered in bite size pieces.
ACES, adverse childhood experiences, have a tremendous impact upon the development of our brains and our stress response systems. They also impact our physical health and projected longevity. An Adults with an ACE score of 4 or more are 390 % more likely to develop COPD, 12 times more likely to have attempted suicide, and 7 times more likely to be an alcoholic. These metrics not only affect adults, they affect the students that are sitting in your classrooms. 1 out of 6 people have 4 or more ACES, and that is likely higher in some areas. It is not all doom and gloom, there are things we can do!
brain states of arousal - Delivered in bite size pieces
According to Dr. Perry’s research, we experience 5 states of brain arousal. We can be in a state of calm, alert, alarm, fear, or terror. The prime state for learning is “alert”. Once we reach alarm, fear, or terror learning has been severely impaired or stops altogether. The more we understand about state dependent learning, the better we can devise our teaching strategies and support systems.
regulation strategies to use in your classroom
This session is not about the ‘why’ behind the strategies, it is about the strategies themselves. We will discuss the difference between brain intervals, focused attention practices, relational regulation, and the importance of safe, patterned, and repetitive experiences. Everyone will leave with strategies I share, and they will design a few of their own. Prerequisite: You must understand the states of arousal and the basics of trauma and adversity.
